History

Throughout the 18th century, Cape Cod became known for its shipbuilding, fishing, and saltworks industries and by the late 18th century, many of the charming homes that still grace the Cape were built by seafaring families and tradespeople, Weatherwood Cottage among them.

Built in the 1700s (precise date unknown, as the Barnstable courthouse burned in 1830 and with it, any earlier records of our home's exact age), Weatherwood Cottage stands as a quiet witness to over two centuries of maritime history, salty winds, and coastal New England life. With its original structure lovingly preserved, the cottage now offers guests a timeless retreat, blending colonial charm with modern comforts.

Today, Cape Cod is a beloved destination known for its beaches, charming villages, and coastal character—but hidden gems like Weatherwood remind visitors that its story began long before summer vacations and lobster rolls.

The story of Cape Cod stretches back thousands of years, shaped first by the Wampanoag people who lived in harmony with its coastline, forests, and salt marshes.
